CARE & MAINTENANCE: These products are intentionally left raw. The natural oils present in Western Red Cedar not only contribute to the wonderful therapeutic aroma released when wet, they also have anti bacterial qualities that offer resistance to mould and rot. When new, you made notice that soaps become a little discoloured where they make contact with the raw Cedar. This is a harmless tea coloured stain that is easy to remove just by use or washing with water. Similarly the new raw Cedar may leave tea-coloured water marks at first. This is normal and is simply the natural tannins coming out of the wood. Some pieces will do so more than others, however will stop eventually.
If you would prefer to accelerate this process you can always soak the Cedar in the bath or a sink full of hot water. To keep your Western Red Cedar products looking their best, particularly the Soap Trays, we recommend giving them a clean every few weeks with a small brush or toothbrush to reach into the crevices of your dish and scrub any soap residue or stagnant water. After doing so rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a cloth
You may want to consider having a second Soap Tray, which you can periodically swap over while allowing the current one to fully dry out. Alternating like this every 2 weeks will help preserve the life of your Western Red Cedar bathroom products.

My year at Sturt School for Wood in Mittagong gave me an excellent base to develop a new career. Each day my education continues. Exposed joints are my passion, with handcut dovetails, bridle joints or through-tenons a particular delight.
Solid timbers, as opposed to manmade, are primarily used. I endeavour to use sustainably forested timbers where possible. The process from concept to design to construction requires close collaboration between my client and I to ensure effective communication of aesthetic, functional and budgetary considerations. This helps to eliminate surprises at either end and results in a piece that fulfils it's purpose and justifies the rationale behind its creation in all respects.
